About

“Toy Photography” was not a common word in the Philippines until late in November 2009 when a Facebook Group page was originally set-up for just two gentlemen to share their zest and passion for toys and photography.

One Fine Afternoon

But the idea was not originally planned as a community not until everyone that saw the page in public became what it has become today. The idea for “Toy Photography” came with one friend’s invitation to hang out one late afternoon at the Bonifacio Global City ‘to do some toy shoot’ sometime in 2007.

It's where both men who would become founders of a community brought some random toys in their bag, and start taking photos of them in locations in specific spot that would Bring Toys to Life™ unlike some, who would just literally take photos of their toys in the confines of a room and call it ‘Toy Photography.’

The Original Vision

The concept and vision of what ‘Toy Photography’ should be is an artistic expression of making an ordinary toy exist in a real world with very minimal photo manipulation, but with the use of a basic camera or phone (with a built-in camera) in telling a #OneShotStory. Not with multiple photos put together to become a single image or the use of high-end toys that appears like the actors themselves.

Other Concepts & High Quality Subjects

There was a growing popularity of ‘Toy Photography’ gave birth to various concepts of how to tell a story. Some used well-detailed dioramas taken indoors, others created their comic book-style concepts, and some toy manufacturers produced high-quality figures that appear almost close to the actors who portrayed them.

Tell an Original Story

But telling a narrative from your imagination is what makes one ‘Toy Photography’ stand out. Taking each piece of the current concept and making them your own taken in one image is something else than recreating a particular scene from an animation, comic book, or even a movie is what the original idea was all about. This was part of what ‘Toy Photography’ is set up from the beginning and continue to learn more while continuing the idea of #OneShotStory.
