Up the Ante | Cheap Toys

It has been a while since there was no monthly challenge for this community. The idea came about due to the Toy Photographers community at Mewe started putting up these challenges. A few months back they have the Cheap Toy Challenge, where for that particular month they only going to use Cheap Toys.

Yes, cheap toys that can be considered from Japanese Capsule Toys, Fast Food Toys like Happy Meal, or random toys that were sold at garage sale or flea market. Of course, this month’s challenge is not for everyone as early posting of this announcement was not emphasized thoroughly that you are not obliged to join if you don’t feel like participating just to spend to get some of the cheap toys as the subject.

But for those who are up to it here are some of the basics what are considered a cheap toy besides the ones mentioned above. There are some out there that you may or may not come across immediately and there might also be some casual Toy Photographers out there that does this for the fun of it.

Those type of people that don’t really spend on toys as their collection or they might be a parent who have kids who encourage them in a hobby of using their toys to good use that might from a McDonald’s Happy Meal or from Jollibee’s Kiddie Meal.

If you’re keen and don’t have cheap toys perhaps a friends who have some them might lend you those just like yesterday during the 3rd day of the Anime Fest: Epic Con Mall event held at the Lucky Chinatown in Manila. A fellow toy enthusiast who is not into Toy Photography got crazy over some cheap toy finds that was sold at the event. He spent almost $2.00 UD on some interesting figurines he finds weird and sublime that caught his curiosity.

They are a lot of fun to use is subjects outdoors or if you have a diorama set for indoors. It’s really crazy how some random toy can be that attractive and downright humorous with some have fixed poses and expressions that might be burned to your brain. The figurines that he bought where dug up at random and we tried to do a research in some of them that does not come up on Google.

But the importance here are not the toys entirely is the challenge of the Cheap Toys that you come across and it can be something worth using to put together a good story that happens without the need for a set up but an improvisation of ideas whenever you are in some area that will give you room to put that composition together.

The theme is currently being featured for August 2019 and if you are already in the community check out some of the cheap toy submissions at the monthly album HERE.

Some of the images posted are not ‘Cheap’ but the admins allow anyone to upload there just for those participating to put caption if they are #CheapToys that they used and describe the subject what toy or brand they are from.

For now you have NINE days to get cracking on submitting your compistion using a Cheap Toy for the community members. For those are not in the group you can also participate too just post it at the Facebook Page Timeline and just include descriptions of your photos with the hash tag: #CheapToyChallenge
